How to have instant control of your dog using the LL (Longe Line)

Here I'm quite close to Bella's collar and letting the training collar do the communicating.

Bella's not sure about all this, but it sure isn't worth the continued effort of struggle.

So, she gives up and relaxes. Good girl, Bella!

  1. Kellie said, "Yikes, hope it settles down. On our walk this afternoon, she tended to move ahead of me even when not targeting something. I started stepping on the leash and she immediately came back to my side. Either that or I'd move in another direction. Going to take us a bit of time, but we're off to a great start. She's so stinking smart!"

  2. For right now, let her choose to forge ahead. If you seek to control her, what you are used to doing, she won't learn to choose being next to you. KMODT is about the dog having choice.

  3. Got it. Let's talk about that tomorrow. I'm finding the length of the longe line combined with the narrowness of the alleys, makes it hard to give her that much leeway. 15' is so much room for her to get in trouble with distractions, like running into the street or reaching through fence lines to pasture animals. Maybe I need to lower the level of distractions, until she's more reliable?
