Here is one way to help a dog succeed and learn that Stand/Stay means Stand/Stay as you circle the dog.

Working on a natural boundary like this curb makes it clearer to the dog the best choice is to remain in the position until commanded to do otherwise.








 







You will notice in the video, I pretend Sugar has moved and I lightly tap his belly to help him maintain his Stand/Stay position.
